These last months have been tough ones, but always thankful for these people here!

Between starting a new, challenging job, navigating my stepdad going on hospice, and spending lots of time away from home to be with family, my stress levels have been at an all time high.

But my first month as an official ICU nurse on my own would have been so much scarier if I didn’t have a great team of co-workers by my side with lots of laughs and support. ❤️

Does disconnecting = self-care for you?

In my book, 100%.

There is something to be said for taking a moment (or two, or three…) to step back from technology, pull back from commitments, and just BE.

A couple of weekends ago, my littlest and I took an impromptu 3 hour drive to surprise his grandparents - and it was honestly the best thing for EVERYONE involved.

I left my laptop at home, didn’t check my email, and didn’t give a second thought to any of the housework or business tasks I left at home. And you know what? EVERYTHING WAS FINE.

What I DID do, however, was spend some much needed time with family, enjoyed a solo road trip with my son, got some reading in, and simply was present in the moment. Honestly, it was just the kind of self-care that I was needing most of all.

Now that I am home and settled back into my normal routine, I’m back to getting plugged in again, but also back to my regular “radical” self-care - my steaming practice. My time to reconnect with myself, nurture my body, and truly offer love to myself.

While vaginal/pelvic steaming has historically (for centuries) been done GLOBALLY, it should be no surprise that is can look very different, depending on where it is done.

Today I spent my morning doing a deeper dive into different steaming practices around the world, specifically the beautiful practices in Thailand, Eritrea, and Suriname.

In some places, steaming (also can be called vapor or fumigation) is strictly a postpartum ritual, while in others, it is mainly used to support youthfulness at any childbearing age. Sometimes it is a very private ritual, yet others it can be an opportunity to bring community together.

And while I was not fortunate enough to have the knowledge of this beautiful experience passed down to me within my family or community, I am grateful to have learned about steaming through my training (@steamychick) and personal experiences. This has encouraged me to look deeper into steaming practices that my own ancestors may have done, in places such as the Netherlands.

Does your inner voice have a tendency to be a bit quieter than the other voices around you? For many years, mine sure was. But only because I allowed it to be...

If you have been following me here on IG for awhile, you already know that I took a break from business life for over a year.

Sure, I've been connecting more with my kids, savoring that time you can't get back.

Yes, I've been working more in the hospital, being a nurse after an extended hiatus from the hospital.

But it was so much more than that...

One habit I adopted after becoming a mother 19 years ago was this bizarre pride I had in filling my plate too full and operating on maximum overwhelm - which sadly led to some pretty negative self-talk. In taking this break over the past year however, I have kicked that habit to the curb, thanks to a new diagnosis of ADHD - which explained a LOT about the way I was operating with overwhelm!

With this year came a lot of changes. And you know what has made the BIGGEST impact for me? I started LISTENING to that inner voice - and allowing myself to AMPLIFY it and put it up on the pedestal it had deserved for so long.

Lesson of the year/month/week/day?
LISTEN to yourself when your inner voice is telling you what you need. It might be some extended time for yourself, a long-overdue doctor appointment, a change in scenery, or maybe just some old fashioned self-care (hello steaming!).

✨🌈 Just like our bodies, steaming is NOT a "one size fits all" type of situation.

We all have different needs, different goals of what we want to experience or accomplish with vaginal/pelvic steaming, and different sensitivities. These are just a few of the reasons I ensure that my clients experience a customized experience that includes a detailed virtual intake before I even begin to blend their OWN BATCH of steaming herbs.

While I have four main blend types that I use in my practice, my Gentle Glow blend is hands down the most common (and most loved) with my clients. Curious what's in it?

You know that feeling of euphoria that overcomes you during certain times in your life?
